GIM hosts founder of Vedanta, Anil Agarwal

 Sanquelim, November 2012: The students at the Goa Institute of Management had the privilege of interacting with Anil Agarwal, the founder and Executive Chairman of the United Kingdom-based Vedanta Resources Corporation. Anil Agarwal spoke to students at about his own life experiences and on the 20 odd years he spent in the industry.

Speaking to the students of GIM, Anil Agarwal stressed on the fact that there are four things for a successful life; health, profession, family and society. During the earlier years Anil Agarwal faced many difficulties and hardships and advised students to not let any failures demotivate them. Anil initially started out with small shops, all nine of which had to be shut down. He later worked with three separate companies before establishing Vedanta.
Anil Agarwal emphasized on the importance of sustainable development. He stressed on the fact that businesses should nurture the earth and not exploit it, and that companies will go a long way if they follow this. He believes that resource management is extremely critical for any organization, and that it is vital for today’s managers to learn about efficient resource management. He also believes that the best resources that a company owns are its employees and that every organization should have a goal so that the employees are proud to be associated with it.
Anil Agarwal’s extremely enriching session in which he talked about his journey and the road to success will go a long way in promoting a spirit of entrepreneurship and leadership amongst the students of GIM.  

Ribandar Talks is a regular GIM event at which eminent speakers are invited to deliver lectures or conduct workshops to an audience comprising of postgraduate management students, faculty and other scholars at the Institute. It’s a platform for students to fulfil their need for intellectual enlightenment through talks by some of the best Indian leaders from the corporate world and other walks of life that have made a difference to society.
