BioAsia 2013 – Global platform on Biotechnology Invites Nominations across Asia for Awards in Biotechnology and Lifesciences areas



Hyderabad, 23rd November, 2012: BioAsia, Asia’s biggest technology and bio-business platform has opened the nomination process for its annual awards organized by Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA) jointly with Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB). The entry is open to all scientists, students and Individuals from member countries of FABA who are interested or are pursuing research in the areas of biotechnology / life sciences or have created a product of value/utility or have made a significant contribution to the field of life sciences industry. Interested and eligible individuals can log on to www.2013.bioasia.in for more details and for submitting their nominations. The Award categories include BioAsia Innovation Award 2013 and BioAsia Young Minds Award 2013.
The entries will undergo a short listing process and shortlisted proposals (10 proposals for innovation award and 5 proposals for young minds) will be announced by end of December for exhibiting their presentation at the BioAsia Venue. Winner in each category will be selected by an expert team at the venue and the awards (INR 1 Lac for innovation award and INR 50,000 for young minds award) will be given away at Valedictory Ceremony of BioAsia 2013, the 10th edition of a successful and broad-spectrum global platform on Biotechnology and Lifesciences. BioAsia 2013 will be held from 28th to 30th January in Hyderabad.
Prof. KV Raghavan, Chairman-BioAsia Organizing Committee & Vice-President FABA, INAE Distinguished Professor & Former Director, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) has stated that these annual awards have become a prominent feature at BioAsia and are aimed at encouraging and motivating contributions, initiatives and innovations in the biotech and life sciences arena. The awards that will be presented at BioAsia 2013 will also be an ideal platform for nominees to showcase their work to the global audience.

We strongly feel that these awards have gained high recognition and response over the years and indeed are playing a great role in motivating Young Scientists to take up innovative research.”
Award Categories and Eligibility:
BioAsia Innovation Award recognizes Young Scientist/Students across Asian members of FABA countries pursuing their research in any of the areas of biotechnology/life sciences, and who have created a product of applied value or generated a product of utility for the welfare of human society. Ten among the best proposals received shall be invited to demonstrate their innovations at the conference venue, the best amongst them would be awarded the BioAsia Innovation Award and a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- (one lakh rupees, approximately 2000 USD).

 Rules for Entry•    BioAsia Innovation Award: Only participants below the age of 35 years as on 31st Dec, 2012 is considered eligible for this award.
•    BioAsia Young Minds Award: Only students of class 10th, 11th & 12th can participate.
•    All research work submitted must be the original work of the participant.
•  Each participant should send an Undertaking to effect that the research work sent to the competition is his/her original. The organizers have the right to cancel the award/awards, if found otherwise.
•    The organizers of BioAsia reserve the right to use the accepted entries for publications/exhibitions taken up by BioAsia.
•    The last date for the receipt of the entries is Dec 20th. Entries received after the due date will not be accepted.

BioAsia Young Minds Award recognizes students of class 10th, 11th & 12th classes who have created a product of applied value or generated a product of utility for the industrial or public utility. Top five innovators will be invited to demonstrate their innovations at the BioAsia 2013 conference venue and the best amongst them will be awarded the BioAsia Young Minds Award and cash prize of Rs. 50,000/- (fifty thousand rupees, approximately 1000 USD).

Miss Paraguay 2012 to attend India Resort Fashion Week 2012



The sun and sand will pale in comparison to Nicole Huber and Leryn Franco at the second edition of India Resort Fashion Week 2012.
 
Reigning Miss International Paraguay 2012, Nicole Huber is excited to soak some sun and sip on delicious cocktails while enjoying the fashion and music festival in Goa this season. Nicole a model and beauty queen contestant from Paraguay also won the title of 'Miss World Paraguay 2011' during the 2011 Miss Paraguay pageant.
The sunshine state of India will see a one of its kind ramp set on the beach with the backdrop displaying the majestic sea.  The latest trends in resort wear will evolve at IRFW 2012; with 6 shows a day and 24 designers showcasing their indigenous collection over 4 days.  Models will be spotted on the runway wearing few of the best resort-wear garments from veteran and emerging designers such as James Ferreira, Falguni and Shane Peacock, Rocky S, Narendra Kumar Ahmed and Pria Kataria Puri.

To add to the glam Reigning Miss International Paraguay 2012, Nicole Huber will be joined by Leryn Franco, Paraguayan model and Olympic athlete. Leryn specializes in the javelin throw and was seen recently seen competing at the London Olympics 2012. Franco has her own calendar, which was photographed in 2007 by Martin Crespo and shot for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2011.

Nidhi Choudhary, MD IRFW said, ‘’The 2nd edition of IRFW 2012 promises several new initiatives to showcase designs from around the world, exchange of ideas, a networking base and stages where artistic form of expression in fashion and music is celebrated. Taking it one step ahead of all fashion weeks, the IRFW 2012 will have three main areas – The Fashion Show, The Fashion Village and The Music Festival.’’,

 The sun kissed beach will also have a Music Festival aka Sand Kastle, which will be bringing down some of the worlds well known DJ’s and artists like Paris HiltonDimitri Vegas and Like Mike  amongst other international talent. For the first time IRFW will have fashion fused with music where best talent from the music industry will be performing.

Open to all; The Fashion Village is a four day fashion shopper's paradise, allowing people to look and buy some of the finest brands/designers in the resorts space.  With stalls from designers participating as well as select other brands, the village is the networking hub of IRFW 2012. The village will also witness acts from live bands, solo artists performing jazz, acoustic etc.


India Resort Fashion Week   is to witness attendance of top Indian and International Fashion Designers, models, choreographers, artists, brands, media houses and music lovers from across the globe. Goa is on the world map as being a favourite beach destination.   The  concept enhances the natural elements such as the ocean and beaches, culture , music and global appeal focusing on offering a positive and enhancing festival experience in Goa.

GIM hosts founder of Vedanta, Anil Agarwal



 Sanquelim, November 2012: The students at the Goa Institute of Management had the privilege of interacting with Anil Agarwal, the founder and Executive Chairman of the United Kingdom-based Vedanta Resources Corporation. Anil Agarwal spoke to students at about his own life experiences and on the 20 odd years he spent in the industry.

Speaking to the students of GIM, Anil Agarwal stressed on the fact that there are four things for a successful life; health, profession, family and society. During the earlier years Anil Agarwal faced many difficulties and hardships and advised students to not let any failures demotivate them. Anil initially started out with small shops, all nine of which had to be shut down. He later worked with three separate companies before establishing Vedanta.
Anil Agarwal emphasized on the importance of sustainable development. He stressed on the fact that businesses should nurture the earth and not exploit it, and that companies will go a long way if they follow this. He believes that resource management is extremely critical for any organization, and that it is vital for today’s managers to learn about efficient resource management. He also believes that the best resources that a company owns are its employees and that every organization should have a goal so that the employees are proud to be associated with it.
Anil Agarwal’s extremely enriching session in which he talked about his journey and the road to success will go a long way in promoting a spirit of entrepreneurship and leadership amongst the students of GIM.  

Ribandar Talks is a regular GIM event at which eminent speakers are invited to deliver lectures or conduct workshops to an audience comprising of postgraduate management students, faculty and other scholars at the Institute. It’s a platform for students to fulfil their need for intellectual enlightenment through talks by some of the best Indian leaders from the corporate world and other walks of life that have made a difference to society.
